SEW helical gear motors are well‑suited for applications involving high‑inertia start‑up, frequent switching and braking cycles, and operating conditions with fluctuating mains power supply. Besides TF thermal sensors, a motor circuit breaker is generally fitted as supplementary protection. For inverter‑driven operation, SEW‑EURODRIVE strongly advises selecting motors factory‑fitted with TF sensors.

TH Thermostat

Three series‑connected bimetallic TH switches are integrated inside the motor, hard‑wired directly to the motor monitoring circuit via the terminal box.

Trigger Temperature

Thermal protection for the motor is delivered by built‑in TF temperature sensors or TH bimetallic switches embedded within the motor’s end windings. Their trigger temperature is set marginally below the thermal class limit, delivering optimal motor overheat protection.

To secure full motor protection, a motor circuit breaker is normally deployed alongside TF thermal sensors. SEW‑EURODRIVE highly recommends TF‑equipped motors for all inverter‑powered running.

The TH thermostat consists of three bimetallic switches wired in series inside the motor, directly routed to the motor monitoring circuit through the terminal box.

Both TF temperature sensors and TH bimetallic switches are embedded into motor end windings to provide thermal overload protection. Trigger thresholds are calibrated slightly under the motor thermal class rating, maximizing winding safety.
